Milkfish Ponds

Gresik’s coast is a patchwork of fish ponds divided by earthen dikes. In 2024 the regency produced more than half of East Java’s milkfish, and the village of Pangkahwetan has been designated a Kampung Bandeng, a milkfish village. The paddlewheels in the ponds churn the water to add oxygen.
