Ujungpangkah Mangroves
At the mouth of the Bengawan Solo river, the Ujungpangkah mangroves were designated an Essential Ecosystem Area in 2020. BirdLife International has recognised them as an Important Bird Area since 2004: more than 90 bird species have been recorded here, including visiting Australian pelicans. The mangroves’ stilt roots hold the mud in place and shelter small fish and crabs.

How to protect it: Never catch, keep, or buy wild birds. Slow down and never chase a flock while it feeds.
