Damar Kurung Lantern

A cube-shaped Gresik lantern of bamboo frame and paper, its four sides painted with everyday scenes in green, blue, red, and yellow. By tradition it hangs in front of homes during Ramadan. The painter Masmundari (1904–2005) made them all her life in a naive folk-art style.
